So part of the changes to my blog include expanding my topics. I started the blog because of my interest in my new hobby – sewing. In the same year I have gained interest in another “hobby” which is running.
I started in January with the couch to 5K program. Perhaps you have heard of it. Anyways for anyone who has interest in getting off the couch and running a 5K, this is a great program to follow. It really eases you into the running and it also gives you nifty little badges like this
So I completed this program and went from not running at all to being able to run 35 minutes without walking, yay me!! So naturally my next step was to sign up for my first 5K
The race I chose is the 5K portion of Around the Bay race. I was born and raised in Hamilton and am very familiar with the area so thought it would be a good choice for my first race. This race is in 13 days so I have 2 weeks left of training on my own with no structured program (I do plan to sign up for the next clinic at the Running Room after the race).
After talking with some people and a little research on the net I decided to go out and try the 10′s and 1′s method (run for 10 minutes and walk for 1 minute). I was pretty pumped to get going (even though I stubbed my toe so hard last night it feels broken). I got the kids and myself all ready to go (because my gym has a daycare) went to start the van and oooppps, my keys are IN the van, locked! It figures
So I am housebound for now. I am hoping it is no longer raining when my hubby gets home so I can just run outside otherwise I will be making a trip to the gym later. On the plus side, I just got some extra time to continue working on my blog
